26-27 High School Algebra 1/Geometry Teacher

KIPP Miami seeks an experienced High School Algebra 1 / Geometry Teacher to design and deliver a rigorous, college-preparatory mathematics program. This role teaches both Algebra 1 and Geometry. Algebra 1 is our priority. Many of our Algebra 1 students arrive with significant gaps in foundational math skills. We affirm the limitless potential of every student, and we read those gaps as where instruction has to start, not as a ceiling on what a student can achieve. We need a teacher who can find where the skills broke down, rebuild them, and still hold the grade-level bar. The ideal candidate has a proven record teaching high school mathematics, including Algebra 1, Geometry, and Geometry Honors, and can build pathways that prepare students for Algebra II Honors, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AICE Mathematics, and IB Mathematics. Coursework will integrate career and technical education (CTE) strands (e.g., architecture, engineering, design technology, construction, and computer-aided design [CAD]) and problem-based learning tied to South Florida’s industries and STEM opportunities.

What We’re Looking For

Our values: Kid Focus, Radical Love, Excellence, TEAM, and Fun, ground this role.

• Instructional Excellence: You plan backwards, differentiate effectively, and deliver engaging, culturally responsive lessons that move all learners to mastery. You prepare and internalize a strong exemplar at the rigor bar of the standard, anticipate high-leverage misconceptions, and design lessons where students do the heavy lifting.

• Advanced Program Mindset: You believe AP/AICE/IB/Dual Enrollment pathways are for all students. You challenge inequities in who gets access to advanced mathematics, and you expand that access while holding rigor.

• CTE Builder: You connect mathematics to real careers (architecture, design, engineering, construction) through authentic projects and certifications, and you are eager to grow your own CTE skill set.

• Data-Driven & Reflective: You hold yourself and your students accountable to the urgent pursuit of results. You self-reflect and seek opportunities to get better faster, and you develop solutions that yield strong outcomes: a student two years behind gets a plan this week, not next quarter

• Heartbeat Aligned: You live our values in the classroom and on the team.• Kid Focus: You put students first every day, in every decision, and prioritize their long-term interests over short-term wins: durable understanding over a quick test bump.

• Radical Love: You affirm the worth and limitless potential of every student and teammate, you bring bold belief to students who have been told they are “not a math person,” and you find a way or make one. You celebrate identity, culture, and community as sources of strength, and you act courageously, especially when it’s uncomfortable.

• TEAM: You seek to understand, invite diverse perspectives, and say the thing that needs to be said on behalf of our kids, directly and with care. You give full and frank input, then rally behind the decision even when it isn’t the one you would have made, and you offer support to teammates before being asked.

• FUN: You take the work seriously, not yourself. You bring energy, humor, and passion, and you celebrate wins big and small, including the student who finally sees why the method works.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

• Plan and teach rigorous, standards-aligned Algebra 1 and Geometry curricula (including Honors and advanced pathways) that meet Florida’s B.E.S.T. Standards and Miami-Dade advanced program expectations. • Prepare and internalize a strong exemplar response for each task, completed with the tools, strategies, and resources students actually have access to, and reflecting the rigor bar of the standard.

• Anticipate high-leverage student misconceptions and pre-plan prompts to address them when they arise.

• Build Algebra 1 units that develop fluency with expressions and equations, linear and quadratic functions, systems, and mathematical modeling, with intentional scaffolding for students entering below grade level.

• Build Geometry units that integrate mathematical reasoning, geometric proofs, coordinate geometry, trigonometry applications, and transformational geometry.

• Diagnose and close foundational skill gaps through do-nows, small-group instruction, and targeted intervention, without lowering the grade-level bar.

• Design lessons where students do the heavy lifting: inquiry-driven pedagogy, project-based learning, and real-world applications (architecture, robotics, engineering design).

• Keep students engaged in the work of the lesson from start to finish.

• Incorporate technology-rich instruction using graphing software, dynamic geometry platforms (e.g., GeoGebra), CAD tools, and design challenges.

Assessment & Data

• Develop assessments and performance tasks aligned to state benchmarks and advanced programs; respond meaningfully to what student work shows, student by student.

• Use diagnostic and interim data to identify prerequisite gaps early and adjust instruction in response.

• Prepare students for the Algebra 1 EOC, other state assessments, college-readiness benchmarks, and advanced program entry points (AP, AICE, IB, Dual Enrollment).

Advanced Programs & Pathways

• Collaborate with the mathematics department to ensure vertical alignment from middle school mathematics through Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra II, and higher-level courses, including AP, AICE, IB, and Dual Enrollment.

• Open advanced mathematical thinking to all students, ensuring equitable pathways to AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AICE, and IB courses, not only to students who arrived on grade level.

CTE Integration

• Embed CTE competencies (e.g., CAD software use, construction design principles, engineering applications) in course projects.

• Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications (e.g., OSHA-10, CAD fundamentals, pre-engineering certifications).

• Complete required CTE coursework and state examinations within the prescribed timeline (see Qualifications) and maintain all related credentials.

Culture & Family Partnership

• Build a classroom students run to: order that frees students to think, mistakes treated as part of learning, and high expectations paired with fierce care

• Partner with families as their child’s first and strongest supporter, transparent progress reporting, student-led conferences, and proactive communication, especially when a student is behind.

• Create opportunities for every student to shine, and make sure student voices are heard and respected.

Professionalism

• Contribute to shared goals, assessments, and curriculum so that every KIPP Miami student gets an excellent math education, not only the students on your roster.

• Collaborate in professional learning communities, content teams, and advanced program alignment work.

• Participate fully in weekly one-on-ones, coaching cycles, and peer feedback, and hold yourself accountable to the results you commit to.
