The Speech Therapist evaluates patients and develops a plan of treatment intended to decrease limitations from injury or disease and to maximize swallowing safety, cognition, and communication skills to the extent possible. The practice of speech pathology requires an in-depth knowledge of human growth and development, human anatomy and physiology, neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and speech pathology theory.  The therapist must be knowledgeable about disease processes and injuries, which impair swallowing function, and communication while considering ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic influences on an individual. Services provided will be on an outpatient basis or occasionally in the home setting.
